SFX makeup and artistry have gained popularity over the last few years, with more and more makeup artists embracing creating unique and kooky monstrous designs. We love to see the variation in use for our SFX lenses, from anime, video game and movie cosplays to individual original designs. In this blog, we’re going to cover our range of SFX contact lenses and the myriad ways our talented affiliates have incorporated them into their designs!
Our UV contact lenses may require a black or UV light to be activated, but once they are, these glowing lenses are beyond captivating. Available in a huge range of colors, there’s a grand amount of potential with these glowing lenses.
Our amazing affiliate @sandyglammua has taken many of our UV lenses for a spin; now we get to go through all the crazy and creative looks that she came up with. First up, this shocking yet stunning UV clown makeup. Clowns are a bit of a staple here at Crazy Lenses, and we love seeing all the refreshing and individual takes on the classic makeup design, from horrifying to cute. Sandy uses the UV White Contact Lenses to create a bewitching clown costume makeup, with an additional bit of UV makeup to make the colors pop!
This look also has some 3D elements with gems and appliques stuck around the border and at high points of Sandy’s face; the fact that in the UV light, these elements also start to glow adds yet another level to this inventive look. Our UV lenses are perfect for creative photoshoots where you can bring your own UV light for activation, or they are fantastic to wear to events where you know UV lights will be used. Add a shocking yet captivating element to your costume as your eyes light up under the lights.
Sandy also uses our UV Green Contact Lenses, which have an equally shocking and bright color pay-off. With the proper equipment, our UV lenses add an extraordinary touch to any costume. If you are planning a supernatural or magical look, consider incorporating our lenses for a crazy transition from your regular eye color to glowing lenses. Sandy uses these UV lenses to create an iconic 80s style look, with large neon earrings that also light up and UV-reactive makeup.
Even without being under direct UV light, these lenses have a bold color payoff. These brightly colored lenses look great both revealing their light-up attribute or being used as regular lenses.
If you’re feeling inspired by Sandy’s incredible use of UV makeup and UV lenses to create the perfect light-up look, then get everything you need to recreate it or try your own design out from Crazy Lenses. We have a range of UV Face & Body Paint in a wide array of colors from Paintglow available on our website; match the color of your UV face paint to your lenses, or pick out a contrasting color for maximum emphasis. Paintglow also has UV Lipsticks and Paintsticks available for smaller and more precise areas.
Our Mini Sclera contact lenses are popular lenses for a reason; these lenses are perfect for creating a range of fantastical and otherworldly looks from aliens to demons. These special effect costume lenses don’t just change the color of your eyes but also alter their apparent shape. Whilst regular contact lenses are approximately between 14mm and 15mm in diameter, Mini Sclera lenses tend to go up to 17mm in diameter, extending past the regular bounds of the iris for a dramatic effect. However, our Mini Sclera lenses don’t span across the whole eye, so they are safer and more comfortable to wear than full sclera lenses.
@midnight_vampira uses our Mini Sclera Red Costume Contact Lenses in this cute yet alien look! The downturned eyes and blush create an adorable effect, however, the bright Red Mini Sclera lenses add an otherworldly and alarming touch.
These bold red costume lenses paired with the sharp and pointy lash extensions create a harsh contrast with the soft design of the rest of the makeup. This original character was created by @midnight_vampira. Allow yourself to get inspired by our affiliates and our lenses - unleash your inner imaginative creative spirit and bring your own characters to fruition.
For an unsettling effect, why not try out our Blind contact lenses? Available in a range of colors, our milky Blind White Contact Lenses are certainly our most popular. These lenses are ideal for zombie or ghost looks, but some of our affiliates have gotten super creative when applying these lenses.
@ohamarie crates a terrifying zombified clown look using the Blind White Costume Contact Lenses as a part of the 'Somewhere In Buffalo' series on their page. This look would be perfect to try and recreate for a Halloween photoshoot. Or, @maddyjmua takes the Blind White lenses in a completely new direction in this icy yet chic snow leopard look! With this snow-themed look the Blind White lenses blend in perfectly.
For a more unique look, try out our colorful Blind contact lenses. @midnight_vampira uses the Blind Blue lenses in this alternative skull face makeup look. The vivid color and opacity of the lenses create a captivating look no matter what kind of SFX design you end up with or the makeup you use!
However, when using Blind Contact Lenses it is important to remember that it is extremely difficult to see. To create the blank and monochromatic effect, these lenses also cover the pupil. Most regular costume lenses have a clear pupil hole to allow for a full range of vision, but these lenses fully cover the pupil and block the majority of light that may enter the eye. Because of this, we only recommend wearing these impressively impactful lenses for photoshoots where you do not have to move around much. Please do not attempt to wear these lenses in public spaces, in cramped or crowded areas, or while driving.
Which of these lenses has your favorite effect? Are you feeling inspired to create your own crazy SFX look using some of these lenses?
